National Police in Ecuador have seized around 3.5 tons of cocaine in the port of Guayaquil that was due to be shipped to Belgium by sea.
With assistance from the Canine Unit, the Ports and Airports Investigation Unit (UIPA) operation "Amanecer" made the discovery of the huge haul of cocaine that was concealed inside a shipping container hidden among boxes of bananas.
Operation commander, Victor Zarate, explained that when officers inspected the contents of the container, 88 cases, containing 3,500 packages of cocaine were found.
The total weight of the narcotics came to 3,502 kilograms.
Ecuadorian authorities said that the haul would have carried a street value of around $175 million.
Police have arrested the owner of the banana export company who is currently being questioned in custody.
