An 89-year-old woman has been found dead with stab wounds in Thornton Heath, Croydon, London. A man in his 30s who was known to the victim has been arrested.
Police were called just after 9pm last night after reports of an injured woman in Brigstock Road, Thornton Heath, in Croydon. When police arrived they found that an 89-year-old woman had been stabbed, paramedics attended the property but tragically the woman was pronounced dead at the scene
The family of the murdered pensioner have been informed and authorities say they are being supported by specialist officers. A post-mortem examination and formal identification will be arranged over the coming days.
A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested shortly afterwards at a different address in Croydon and remains in police custody.
Police have said that enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the killing, however, they have confirmed at this stage they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the murder.
The man who has been arrested and the woman who was killed are thought to have been known to each other.
