50-year-old Darren Rybak, of Nelson Street, Barrow-in-Furness, had arranged to meet a 13-year-old girl he had been sexually grooming at Barrow train station.

Unbeknown to this vile paedophile at the time, the girl he believed he had been messaging was, in fact, a decoy, and a member of a paedophile hunting group - Elusive Child Protection Unit.

Rybak was approached by the group at Barrow train station when he turned up to meet the child he believed he had been talking sexually to online, they held him until local police arrived and arrested him.

Rybak was sentenced to 18 months behind bars on Friday in a hearing at Preston Crown Court after being convicted of attempting to meet a girl under 16 following grooming and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

He was also handed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.

Detective Constable Ashlynne Elliot said: "Our main focus is to protect vulnerable people from harm. "Today's sentence puts another offender behind bars, I encourage anyone who has concerns that a child might be a victim of online child sexual exploitation or abuse to contact us.

"We are committed to protecting children from sexual abuse and online child sexual exploitation, with specialist officers from our Cyber and Digital Crime Unit, working together in partnership with support agencies across Cumbria to investigate and bring perpetrators of these horrific crimes before the courts."
