British Man Arrested At Ibiza Airport After He Smashed A Bottle Over His Girlfriend's Head
A 26-year-old British man has been arrested at Ibiza Airport after smashing a bottle over the head of his girlfriend. The attack took place just moments after the couple touched down in the country for the start of their holiday.
The 26-year-old British tourist was held by police at the door to the Ibiza Airport terminal after members of a flight crew who were leaving the area contacted the police after the attack which took place around midnight on June 11.
The attack occurred just minutes after the couple had touched down at the airport after a late-night flight from the UK.
Reports said that airport police had found the victim lying injured on the floor with all of her belongings scattered around her.
A spokesman for the Civil Guard said: "We took a 26-year-old British man into custody on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend.
"Witnesses said they saw him smash a bottle over her head. "He adopted an aggressive attitude with police who responded to the alert and had to be overpowered before being handcuffed."
It has not yet been confirmed whether the British woman, thought to be 28, required hospital treatment and whether she has decided to press charges against her boyfriend.
A member of the local police said: "The alleged aggressor spent the first night of his holidays in a police cell before being taken to court."
