Convicted Paedophile Who Stabbed Two Police Officers Has Been Jailed For 20 Years

A violent thug who stabbed two police officers has been revealed as a convicted paedophile wanted for historic sex offences. His recent mugshot shows that he appears to have had a rough time in custody before being jailed for 20 years.

62-year-old Jon Ross carried out a "savage" attack on PCs Timothy Willett and Darren Brimacombe last year when they responded to a disturbance at a property in Dartmoor.

Police located Ross in Princetown, Devon, in the early hours of July 9. When they arrived at the scene, Ross jumped from his parked car and slashed and stabbed at both officers with a knife.

PC Willett suffered serious injuries to his arm and fingers while PC Brimacombe sustained serious injuries to his head, face, and arm.

Neither officer has returned to frontline duty after the attack and both of them required surgery due to the severity of their injuries.

Ross, who was seen with a black eye in his police mugshot, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing grievous bodily harm, with intent. He also admitted charges of affray and assault on a previous occasion.

In a trial that concluded in April, the 62-year-old had previously been found guilty of four historical sexual offences against a child.

Lee Bremridge, prosecuting the case chronologically, described the sexual abuse against a child which took place around 20 years ago in the Plymouth area. The court was told how Ross had forced his young teenage victim to touch him sexually, before indecently assaulting her.

Mr Bremridge read the victim impact statement, saying: "The psychological effect has been immense. The justice system is not enough to punish this man."

The victim spoke about the horrific effect the first trial had on her mental health, she added: "He is a massive danger to society and unless he dies in prison no sentence is ever enough."

The court then moved onto the two violent incidents involving Ross, the first of which took place in 2021, when in the early hours, police were called to Mr Ross's house in Burrator Avenue following reports of shouting. When officers arrived and knocked on the door they were told it was open.

Mr Bremridge said: "They were met with an extremely violent Jon Ross. He stood at the top of the stairs and threw weight lifting weights down telling them to get the f*ck out or he'd kill them.

"He lunged at an officer with a knife but the stabbing attempt was unsuccessful as a police officer was holding a riot shield."

Ross later told police that he had taken an overdose and only ever intended to hurt himself and not the officers.

The court was then told how police were called to reports of a disturbance at a property late on 8 July 2021. PCs Willett and Brimacombe, who both knew Ross from previous work in the community, searched the area and found his vehicle.

The officers discovered Ross sitting in the driver's seat of the vehicle drinking from a bottle.

Without warning, Ross swung at PC Willett with a knife before "exploding" out of the open car door and attacking PC Brimacombe who was stabbed multiple times as they grappled on the ground.

PC Willet suffered cuts to his scalp and face and narrowly avoided having the end of his nose cut off.

PC Brimacombe was stabbed in the arm, suffering a serious arterial bleed.

PC Willet managed to deploy his Taser to bring Ross under control.

A police-issue tourniquet had to be applied to PC Brimacombe's arm as the bleeding was so heavy.

Ross was found to be two times over the legal limit of alcohol to drive a vehicle.

Ross was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison for the attack on the two police officers and 8 years for the child sex offences. Both sentences will be served consecutively. He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders register for life.
