The former director of the Dreamboys male strip group violently attacked his wife with an axe outside her home after he saw her with reality TV star Kirk Norcross. He has been sentenced to 27 years behind bars.
42-year-old former stripper David Richards, lay waiting for hours outside the home of 32-year-old Alex Alam, waiting to ambush her when she came outside her property in Stock, Essex, to let her dogs out as children were inside the home.
Judge David Turner KC told Chelmsford Crown Court how the victim suffered a fractured skull and severe cuts to her scalp and face in the attack that resulted in a "bloodbath".
Ms Alam's victim impact statement was read out in court, she said: "I've been utterly betrayed beyond belief by the person I chose to have children with, turning my life upside down.
"The scars are a constant reminder of what he did to me."
Ms Alam was praised by the judge, who commended her "courage" for attending Thursday's sentencing hearing. The victim wept in court as details were read out.
Richards appeared via video link from Chelmsford Prison, he could be seen crying at various points in the hearing.
Prosecutor, Mr Carter, described how Richards took an axe, dry suit, and cable ties to the property on April 3, 2022, showing "clearly pre-meditation prior to the night and on the night."
He added: "You will remember he waited a number of hours dressed as he was, with the weapon, waiting for Ms Alam's friend, Mr Norcross to depart."
At an earlier hearing, Richards was found guilty of attempted murder as well as being convicted of breaching a non-molestation order.
When addressing Richards, the judge told him that the incident on April 3 was a "hideous culmination of the breakdown some 18 months earlier of your family relationships".
He added that from the autumn of 2019, there had been numerous reports to police of alleged domestic violence, harassment, and stalking.
He described Richards as being "obsessive" and having a "jealous mindset".
The judge added: "Your dream home, family, and lifestyle to which you had aspired had very sadly unravelled and left you depressed, isolated, and angry."
The court heard how Richards had "tied up Ms Alam briefly" during the attack but that it was "ineffectual", and he had proceeded to drag her by the hair.
Essex Police said when Richards attempted to locate Ms Alam's phone, she was able to free herself, lock her doors, and phone 999.
A police chase then ensued and when officers caught up with Richards, he told them he had done "the most stupid thing I had done in my life".
David Richards was sentenced to 27 years in prison.
