The body was confirmed as that of 51-year-old Orsolya Gaal and was discovered by Glenn Van Nostrand, who instantly called police.

Von Nostrand spotted the holdall bag while he was walking his dogs in Queens, New York, just after 8 a.m. yesterday morning, at first he thought it had just been thrown out with the rubbish. His two Rhodesian ridgebacks became agitated as they got closer to it, prompting him to take a look inside. Van Nostrand said, "They are scent hounds, they see the world through their noses."

The dogs kept trying to pull Von Nostrand in another direction after finding the mutilated corpse, once police arrived the dogs helped them follow a fresh trail of blood.

The bag was said to be leaking blood, and the trail led them back to the home of the victim, Mrs Orsolya Gaal, who lived approximately half a mile away, where her 13-year-old son was home alone.

According to the police, the young boy had no idea where his mother was.

The New York Post reported that the 13-year-old son was seen being led away by police in handcuffs, before being quizzed and then later released.

Officials said that the two men are "people of interest" in the case.

Neighbors in the area have described "feeling sick" and being "terrified" after the gruesome discovery.

Local resident Linda Gorniaczyk said, "It's freaky, as a woman, it's scary. You listen to true crime stuff and you don't want to see it in real life, especially in your neighborhood."
