Four Police Forces Chase Driver For 80 Miles After He Ran Over An Officer In Blackpool

A driver ran over a police officer in Blackpool on Friday night before taking four different police forces on an 80-mile car chase. The suspect was eventually arrested in Stoke.

After the officer was struck by the car in Blackpool, police from Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside, and the North West Motorway Police chased the suspect for around 80 miles before he was detained on the M6 in Stoke after officers forced the vehicle to a stop.


According to the Lancashire Constabulary, the officer suffered only minor injuries and the driver was arrested for dangerous driving and wounding.


The vehicle was seen surrounded by police cars and with a smashed windscreen.



The police tweeted: "Driver of this vehicle ran over an officer near Blackpool and was pursued through @nwmwaypolice with @lancstacops @chesirercu and ourselves before being stopped with tactics at J16 M6 in Stoke. Driver arrested for numerous offences."


A spokesperson for Lancashire's road police unit said: "Citroen which ran over a police officer on the M55 Kirkham pursued through neighbouring forces at up to 140mph before being stopped using TPAC Tactics at Junction 16 M6. Driver arrested for wounding and dangerous driving. Thankfully the officer only has minor injuries."
