A serving officer with Greater Manchester Police has been charged with the rape of a woman in 2009.
51-year-old James Andrew Darnton, who is a current serving officer with Greater Manchester Police has been charged with rape relating to an incident involving a woman in 2009.
The accused is a temporary detective inspector working within the public protection governance unit at Greater Manchester Police.
The incident was initially reported in October 2021. Darnton is due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 10 July 2023.
The officer has been suspended, and GMP confirmed that professional proceedings against him will recommence following the upcoming court appearances.
