A woman in her 50s was shot by two men on motorcycles carrying an assault rifle while standing on her doorstep, a witness reported. The victims expressed their shock as the woman who was described as a "sweet old lady" was shot in the back while her house was peppered with bullets during Friday's evening drive-by.

The victim is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the incident that took place in Brockley, South East London. Local residents who saw the shooting said that the woman was not the intended target of the gunmen.

Police were called to Coston Walk at approximately 8.10pm, where they found the victim with gunshot wounds. MyLondon reported that they had spoken to a witness of the shooting who said that two men on motorbikes had approached the Lewisham property and fired "5 or 6 bullets", of which two hit the woman in the back. The witness said: "I was on my phone outside and saw two men on motorbikes coming down the path and they stopped in front of the house and started shooting.

"They stopped at the door of the house and started shooting a lot of bullets - about 5 or 6. It looked like a machine gun. I thought, 'wow that's a big gun'. It's crazy."

A neighbour of the victim said: "She's my neighbour, I was talking to her yesterday. I saw her message on Facebook, she's in hospital, she doesn't know when she'll be released, and she got shot twice in the back and in her left side. "Her house, a lot of people hang around there so I don't think she was the intended target because nobody would shoot a sweet old lady. There's always a lot of boys there, whoever did it saw someone outside their house and unfortunately, she got shot."

No one has been arrested for the shooting yet as police enquiries continue. A spokesperson for the Met Police said: "Police were called to Coston Walk, SE4, at 20,10hrs, on Friday, 15 July, to reports of a shooting. "Officers attended along with paramedics from London Ambulance Service. The air ambulance was also called to the scene. A woman in her 50s was found with wounds to her back, believed to have been caused by a firearm. "She was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital. Her injuries have been assessed as not life-threatening. A crime scene is in place. There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue."
