Kentucky Tree Surgeon Dies After Getting Tangled In Christmas Lights & Falling In Wood Chipper

A tree surgeon in Kentucky has tragically died after falling into a wood chipper while working near a Christmas display, local police confirmed.

46-year-old tree surgeon Joseph 'Joey' Manire, was working on the trees in Owensboro's Stonegate area on Monday when he became tangled in a Christmas lights display.


The Daviess County Sheriff's Office said the man suffered traumatic injuries when he fell into the path of a wood chipper.


Paramedics raced to the scene, but despite their best efforts, Mr Manire was tragically pronounced dead at the scene at around 5pm.


The sheriff's office said in a statement: "A local tree trimming contractor was doing some work when an employee became tangled and fell partially into a wood chipper."


Authorities said that no foul play is suspected but an investigation into the incident has been launched.



Mr Manire, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, was working for the McEnroe Tree Service.


A funeral for the deceased man was due to be held at Dogwood Funerals & Cremations of Crofton.


Tributes for Mr Manire poured in on social media, with one friend saying: "I think that was my really good friend. I'm literally just finding out he was killed.


"You left behind a river of tears this morning and that river will grow into an ocean as the news reaches others. God don't make men like you anymore."
