In the video, the women could be seen tormenting the terrified children who were visibly distraught while wearing masks commonly associated with the horror movie "Scream".

The women involved in the incident have been named as Traci Hutson, Shyenne Shelton, Jennifer Newman, Oci-Anna Kilburn, and Sierra McCandless.

All five of the women now face three felony counts of child abuse, and Traci Hutson faces two additional misdemeanor charges for failure to report abuse and simple assault against a minor.

The video showing the events was filmed on two different days, one in September and one in October, however, the owner of the daycare, Sheila Sanders, was not present at the time and claimed she knew nothing about the incident until the videos appeared online.

Ms Sanders told local news outlet WTVA: "The people that did those acts are no longer with me.

"I do not condone that. I just wanted to say that it is being taken care of."

WATCH THE VIDEO:

McCandless, who calls herself CeeCee, released a 19-minute video that she posted on Facebook addressing the alleged child abuse incident.

McCandless is seen in the video wearing the Ghostface mask, getting right in the face of the children who were crying in terror, and grabbing those who tried to run away - she said that none of it "was meant to harm anybody and it wasn't ill-intentioned."

She added: "The teachers asked me if I would do it or if they could use the mask to get their class to listen or clean up. I'm not a child abuser."

Katelyn Johnson, the mother of one of the children who attends the daycare, told ABS News: "I was in complete shock at what I witnessed. Whether they had a mask on or a mask off, their behaviour was unacceptable.

"My blood pressure was raised. It broke my heart for my child. I was angry."

After the video went viral, local authorities, the County Prosecuting Attorney, and the District Attorney met with the parents of the children involved to discuss with them the potential of criminal charges they were within their rights to file against the staff at the daycare.

Sheriff Kevin Crook said: "I admit it was very hard to watch these videos. It made me sick to my stomach to think of the terror those kids were enduring.
