First Rank Captain Anton Kuprin, 44, is believed to have been killed when the Moskva was hit by Ukrainian missiles

Sources in Kyiv have said that First Rank Captain Anton Kuprin, 44, was killed after the Moskva was struck by two Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship missiles.

Anton Gerashenko, advisor to the Kyiv interior ministry, said, "He died during an explosion and fire on board the former flagship of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation."

Gerashenko added, "We do not mourn."

Other sources support the claim that the 44-year-old Captain was killed during the incident.

Russia claimed on state media that all of the crew were evacuated safely, however, there are increasing reports of lives lost on the Moskva.

Russia is holding a "farewell ceremony" to the flagship in Sevastopol on Friday at a monument in honour of the 300th anniversary of the Russian fleet.

Russia has yet to comment on the apparent death of Captain Kuprin, however, Russia has refused to confirm many prominent military deaths throughout the invasion of Ukraine.

This claim comes as Captain Alexey Bogomolov, of the 25th separate regiment of GRU special forces (Stavropol), was said to have been killed in the conflict.

It has been reported that the funeral for Bogomolov will take place on Saturday in the Tambov region.
