An Indian mum has been left with life-threatening injuries after fighting off a tiger with her bare hands after it sunk its teeth into the head of her 15-month-old baby.
The violent attack took place on Sunday on the outskirts of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
Archana Choudhary and her 15-month-old baby were attacked by the tiger close to their village. The brave woman managed to fend off the tiger and keep it away from her child until locals rushed to help after hearing her screams.
The mother and baby are currently in hospital receiving treatment for their injuries. The Times of India reported how the tiger had "sunk its teeth into the baby's head".
Ms Choudhary fought with the tiger in an attempt to save the life of her child, the animal reportedly fled when villagers arrived throwing sticks and stones.
The child was left with wounds to his head but authorities said they are not believed to be life-threatening. The mother has suffered a punctured lung and deep lacerations across her body and is currently in intensive care.
Local authorities said it would be impossible to hunt down the tiger that was responsible for the attack, but vowed to do more to stop animals escaping from the reserve in the future.
