44-year-old Peter Cartwright hid a camera in the home of a woman on multiple occasions and recorded her while she was naked. The pervert ex-surveillance officer in the British army was told his excuse was "nonsense" by the judge as he was sentenced to eight months in prison for voyeurism.

His victim described how she felt "physically sick" when she saw a red light in the laundry basked in her bathroom.

She said that "it was the nastiest shock I've had in my life", she added that she now suffers from panic attacks after the incident.

Disgraced Cartwright apologised to his victim and told her he had only put it there that day, and that he only did it because "he fancied her".

After police arrested him he confessed that he had put the camera in the woman's house on a number of different occasions.

The 44-year-old peeping Tom told the court that he only wanted "to recreate the excitement of his time as a surveillance officer in the army."

Judge Howard Crowson told him "It's nonsense. If you wanted to carry out exciting surveillance work you don't need to do it on a naked female, do you?

Teesside Crown Court was told how Cartwright had served 22 years in the military and was deaf in one ear from explosions while on tours of duty.

Cartwright, of Hartlepool, was jailed for eight months, given a sexual harm prevention order and an indefinite restraining order. He was also ordered to sign the sex offender's register for 10 years.
