A murder investigation has begun after police discovered the body of a 77-year-old woman at a house in Cookstown, Northern Ireland.
Police attended a property in Ratheen Avenue just before 11:00 BST on Sunday and discovered the body of a 77-year-old woman. A 45-year-old man who was inside the property has been arrested on suspicion of her murder. Authorities have appealed for anyone who may have any information to come forward and assist with their enquiries.
John McNamee, local councillor spoke out about how the family and wider community have been left devastated by the murder.
Speaking to BBC News NI, Mr McNamee said: "I was devastated personally because I knew the individual and I know the wider family circle. "This type of thing doesn't happen in the likes of this estate, it has never happened before and I'm sure the people here will take a long time to recover from this." Patsy McGlone, a member of Mid Ulster assembly, said there was a "terrible sense of shock, sadness, and grief in Cookstown.
"My thoughts and prayers are with her family and all those who knew her who will be devastated today."
