Many Feared Dead As Mass Stampede In South Korea Results In 50 Cardiac Arrests

Many people are feared to have been killed after being crushed during a Halloween party in the South Korean capital of Seoul. Harrowing video footage shows people giving CPR to motionless victims.

The stampede was caused by a large crowd pushing forward on a narrow street, resulting in dozens of people being crushed during a Halloween party near the Hamilton Hotel in the Itaewon area.


Footage that circulated online shows multiple victims lying on the pavement as bystanders attempt to issue CPR.



National Fire Agency official Choi Cheon-sik said that around 100 people had been injured, including 50 people suffering from cardiac arrest.


He added that more than 400 emergency response workers have been deployed to the scene.

More than 400 emergency workers from around the country have been deployed, including almost all those available in Seoul, he added.


South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said in a statement that officials should ensure swift treatment for those injured as well as review the safety of the festivity sites.



He also instructed the Health Ministry to swiftly deploy disaster medical assistance teams and secure beds in nearby hospitals to treat the injured.
