A mother has been convicted of murdering her own 18-month-old son after he died from malnutrition in 2019 after being fed a diet consisting only of fruit, veg, and breastmilk. When the boy died he hadn't been fed for a week.
39-year-old Sheila O'Leary from Florida was convicted of first-degree murder after the death of her 18-month-old son who was fed only fruit, vegetables, and breastmilk. O'Leary's sentencing is due to take place on July 25, where she is looking at life behind bars.
The young toddler, Ezra, died in 2019 from complications caused by his severe malnutrition. When the 18-month-old died, doctors discovered that he hadn't been fed for at least a week.
O'Leary and her husband Ryan, who is awaiting trial after also being charged with murder called 911 when they noticed Ezra had stopped breathing.
The young boy was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Prosecutors told the jury at the trial that Ezra was known to be a child who was emaciated and constantly crying. The couple also has two other children, a three-year-old and a five-year-old, both of which were severely malnourished.
The court heard how the children's skin had turned yellow and how one of them had such bad dental hygiene that the majority of their teeth were black.
