Texas authorities have alleged that a woman who was found murdered in her own home was actually killed by her husband, Christopher Michael Collins. They have said that the 41-year-old man attempted to cover up the shooting of his wife, 46-year-old Yuan Liang, by making it look like a purported intruder was actually the killer. Surveillance footage, a new life insurance policy, and suspicious contents of his gym locker are what ultimately led to his downfall according to prosecutors in Harris County.

On November 18, Liang had apparently called her husband to tell him that someone was on their property, Collins claimed that after attempting to call her back he could not get through. Police arrived at the home, followed by Collins shortly after, he told authorities that a person was trespassing on their property two before, they did confirm that they had been called to the property previously, following reports of a suspicious man.

The police entered the property with Collins and found Yuan Liang laying dead on the floor, she had been shot in the head.

During a probable cause hearing, prosecutors explained that there were no signs of forced entry, no signs of a struggle, and nothing appeared to have been stolen.

Collins’s story allegedly started to fall apart. According to authorities, there were cameras inside that could be remotely viewed, but Collins said that he did not check the system after he could not reach Liang. He allegedly also said he did not know why he did not immediately return home.

“[He] Didn’t know why he remained at the gym for 45 minutes; it was only 3.5 miles from his home,” the prosecutor said.

When questioned about his and his wife's insurance policy, Collins had explained that they didn't have one as they had previously missed a payment and it got canceled, but authorities confirmed that they found new life insurance papers for a $250,000 policy that the couple had signed just two days earlier, on November 16.

Collins allegedly said that there should be a 9mm handgun in the laundry room that his wife had purchased. He said that he did not like guns and that there was no ammunition in the house, but detectives eventually found a .22 caliber bullet in his pants, authorities said.

CCTV footage taken from the gym showed Collins exercising for just five minutes, yet entering the locker room repeatedly.

Authorities said that they found his wife's wallet, passport, IDs, cosmetic bag, bank card as well as a quantity of cash in one of the locked lockers.

Yuan Liang last attended the gym with her husband on November 8, but surveillance footage showed neither of them using the locker rooms. The staff at the gym confirmed they cleaned and emptied all the lockers of items on November 13, anything that was left behind before this time was moved to lost and found.

Yuan Liang was shot whilst wearing a sleeping mask before a bag was put over her head, authorities are claiming that Collins did this as he did not want to see his wife's face as she died.

Collins is currently being held on a $150,000 bond.
