Concerned neighbours contacted authorities after not hearing from David Conde Sr, 59, for around a week. The bodies of Mr Conde and his 2-year-old son, David Conde Jr, were found dead in the same bedroom at their apartment.

The young child had been born with medical complications that required several surgeries and months of rehabilitation - he had just recently learned to walk.

Authorities confirmed there were no visible signs of trauma on either of the deceased bodies.

The Ontario County Sheriff's Office said that the father and son were found on February 15, but their tragic cause of death has only just been released.

Authorities announced on Monday that Conde Sr had died of natural causes due to cardiovascular disease and that Conde Jr died sometime later of starvation.

The Sheriff's Office said: "It is believed Mr Conde passed away first and the child was not able to obtain any nourishment after his father passed."
