A father-of-four who was away on a stag-do in the popular Portugal coastal city of Albufeira was left in a coma after being stabbed, this attack marks the second time a Welshman has been stabbed in the same area within three months.
35-year-old Joel Collins from Troedyrhiw is the second Welshman to be stabbed in the city of Albufeira in the southern Algarve this year.
Joel was reportedly stabbed while walking back to his accommodation on July 4 after becoming separated from his friends while on a night out.
A member of the public found the victim unconscious in the street with deep knife wounds to his abdomen and rushed him to the hospital in Faro.
The victim had suffered lacerations to his stomach, intestines, lungs, and pancreas and is currently in intensive care after multiple operations, his family said.
Joel's sister, Heid Collins, told Wales Online that her brother had limited memory of what happened to him three weeks ago, but hospital staff said it appeared he had been mugged, as when he arrived at the hospital he had no ID or mobile phone.
His last memory was getting out his phone to find a route back to his hotel after becoming separated from his friends. Joel suffered deep stab wounds and has undergone multiple surgeries and is due to have another operation on Monday.
