Zara Aleena Murder: Jordan McSweeney Pleads Guilty To Beating Law Student To Death

Sexual predator Jordan McSweeney has pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to brutally murdering 35-year-old law student Zara Aleena, just days after he was released from prison.

Zara Aleena was brutally beaten to death in the early hours of 26 June this year, today Jordan McSweeney has confessed at the Old Bailey to committing the horrific crime.

McSweeney, 29, who had targeted several women that night before turning his attention to Ms Aleena, also pleaded guilty to sexual assault.

The victim was attacked by McSweeney while walking home after spending the afternoon with friends.

Prosecutors said how the 35-year-old victim "stood no chance" as she was violently dragged into a driveway before being kicked and stamped on.

The court was told how McSweeney sexually assaulted Ms Aleena, stole her handbag, keys, and mobile phone before leaving her for dead.

At 2.44am, emergency services were called to the scene after the victim was found partially naked and struggling to breathe while suffering from severe head injuries on Cranbrook Road in Ilford, east London.

Paramedics rushed Ms Aleena to the Royal London Hospital where she tragically died from her injuries sustained in the attack.

London's Metropolitan Police described the killing as an "opportunist stranger attack". The victim was only minutes from her house when she was brutally murdered.

McSweeney was seen on CCTV following several women on the night of the attack before focusing in on Ms Aleena.

The killer had been released on licence from prison just nine days before he carried out the attack.

The Old Bailey heard how McSweeney was a prolific criminal who had served prison time for criminal damage, racially aggravated harassment, and possession of a knife in prison.

The question has to be asked as to why McSweeney was released from prison and put back into society, he has 28 convictions from 69 offences, including theft of a vehicle, criminal damage, assaulting police officers, assaulting members of the public while on bail, and burglary.

Jordan McSweeney will be sentenced for the murder of Zara Aleena on 14 December.
